Families Belong Together: A Call to Replace the Child Welfare System
We seek to build awareness. Our mission in publishing this book is to elevate and honor the voices of lived experience and do our part in replacing the child welfare system. Therefore, the book is being sold at printing and delivery costs.
This book is a collection of powerful narratives that shed light on the firsthand experiences of those who have lived through the child welfare system. The book is self-published to ensure the articles remain unaltered, as they would have been if they had gone through traditional publishing methods. We want to make sure the original contributions are experienced as intended.
A Word from Stacey About Families Belong Together
"We are asking families to endure the child welfare system we have created. The only way to fix it is to change and replace the system with something completely different and new. Throughout my career, every step of the way, the only thing I am sure of, the only thing I have learned, is that families belong together."
Stacey Moss, Public Knowledge® President and CEO
Our Purpose
Our reason for publishing the book hinged on a few elements, but one particular reason was that it would be a disservice to share these contributions only once.
Why Publish a Book?
Policy actions are required, and grassroots advocacy is essential.
This is More Than a Book
It is a collection of firsthand experiences that expose the harm in the current child welfare system. Our goal is to build awareness and drive change.
Our vision for child welfare is rooted in preserving family integrity and ending unnecessary separations. Families Belong Together shows why replacing the current system is essential. Join us in making a difference
This Book Is For You If You Want To...
A Collection of Articles from the Family Integrity & Justice Quarterly
We are dedicated to making a positive impact and leaving each person, project, client, colleague, and community better than when we started. In 2022, PK released four issues of the Family Integrity & Justice (FIJ) Quarterly, each focusing on a key issue contributing to harm experienced by children and families in the current child welfare system. The book is a collection of personal stories originally published in the FIJ Quarterly.
To ensure these articles are accessible, they are still available for free through the digital FIJ Quarterly publications below.
